Career Summary

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

2022 (Seattle): Roldan established new career highs in appearances (32), starts (26) and assists (7) during the 2022 regular season, scoring his lone goal in a 4-0 win over Vancouver (June 14). He also started all eight matches in Seattle’s title winning Concacaf Champions League run.

2021 (Seattle): Roldan’s broke out in his first year as a regular starter in 2021, starting 26 of 29 appearances during the regular season. He scored his first-ever goal as a member of Seattle in a 1-1 draw at the Colorado Rapids (July 4). He also added two assists in regular season play and was one of six Sounders FC players to start the MLS All-Star Game. The California native started all three League’s Cup matches as the club advanced the final before falling to Club León. It was during 2021 that Roldan also began to represent El Salvador, scoring in his debut against Guatemala (July 11).

2020 (Seattle): Roldan appeared in 18 matches for Seattle (three starts) in the 2020 MLS regular season, recording one assist in a 2-2 draw against Real Salt Lake (September 2). He started all four matches of Seattle run to its second consecutive MLS Cup appearance. He also made on appearance in Concacaf Champions League play, in addition to one match for Tacoma Defiance.

2019 (Seattle): Roldan started five of nine appearances during the regular season for the Rave Green, recording recorded one assist against FC Dallas (June 1). He also logged a full 90 minutes in the club’s 2-1 loss to the Portland Timbers in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup (June 13). The defender logged six appearances (all starts) for Tacoma Defiance in 2019, scoring one goal.

2018 (Seattle): After a sterling college career at Seattle University, where he was coached by Sounders FC Broadcaster Pete Fewing, Roldan was selected by Seattle in the 2018 MLS SuperDraft. An important player for both the First Team and the club’s USL outfit, Sounders FC 2, Roldan amassed 19 MLS appearances in his first professional season. The former SU standout made his professional debut as a substitute in a 3-0 road loss to FC Dallas (March 18). Shortly thereafter, he earned his first start in Seattle’s 2-2 draw away to Sporting KC (April 15), where he tallied his first MLS assist. For Sounders FC 2, Roldan made eight USL appearances – six of them starts – as he pitched in one goal and one assist.

COLLEGE EXPERIENCE

A four-year starter at Seattle University, Roldan finished his collegiate career recording 82 appearances – starting every game from 2014-2017 – with 18 goals and 17 assists. In 2017, he scored six goals and led the team with eight assists, while attempting 101 shots and putting 49 shots on goal, both good for second-most in the nation in those categories, in addition to assisting on the game-winning overtime goal at the University of Washington in the NCAA Tournament on November 16, 2017. His season earned him All-WAC First Team honors and selection to the United Soccer Coaches All-Region First Team. In 2016, Roldan was named All-WAC First Team following a year in which he led his team with eight goals – six as match-winners – and three assists, helping the Redhawks to a second-place finish in the WAC in goals per game. As a freshman and sophom*ore, Roldan started every game and recorded four goals and six assists.

YOUTH EXPERIENCE

Roldan played with CZ Elite for one season, serving as team captain and winning the Surf Cup and league title.

PERSONAL

Roldan majored in business management at Seattle University. His two older brothers, Cesar and Cristian, are both involved in Major League Soccer, as Cesar works as an athletic trainer with the LA Galaxy and Cristian plays for Sounders FC after having been drafted by the club in first round (16th overall) in the 2015 MLS SuperDraft. Roldan attended El Rancho High School in Pico Rivera, California, where he was a three-year letterwinner and helped lead the school to four league championships and four-consecutive playoff appearances, in addition to one California Interscholastic Federation championship and one state championship.
