How to Make Ginger Juice (recipe + benefits) (1)

Ginger Juice can be made easily from fresh ginger root using a blender or a juicer. The ginger drink has a refreshing bite and carries a load of nutrition that boosts immunity, helps cold and flu, calms upset tummies and even helps control weight.

Ginger juice is the main component of many healthy wellness shots, including my own Tiktok-viral Ginger Shots. But it can also be added to more complex juice recipes such as my beetroot juice, cucumber lemon juice , apple cider vinegar drink, and even strawberry smoothie recipes to boost health benefits and add spicy kick.

Why You'll Love This

Bright flavor. Ginger juice is tangy to taste-buds, and actually warms your tongue thanks to active compounds in ginger called gingerols that trigger heat-sensing nerve cells in your mouth and hands. [source]

Versatile juice. You can drink ginger juice straight, or mixed with water. Or mix it with seltzer water to make ginger ale. Or use ginger juice as a base for wellness hots, juices, smoothies, soups, co*cktails, salad dressings and more.

Health benefits of Ginger juice. Ginger juice has been regarded as a medicinal option as far back as 456 BC Confucius time. [source] Today, it is still well known that ginger is a go-to for upset stomachs and immunity boosting.

Ingredients

Ginger. You will extract ginger root to create the juice. Use fresh ginger root from the produce area. Scrub with a brush or cloth as you would a potato. Or use a ginger grater to plane or microplane the root.

Water.

See the recipe card at the bottom for full information on ingredients and quantities.

Steps to Make

For more detail, visit the complete recipe at the bottom of this post, but here are general steps.

Preparations: Buy fresh ginger root. It's a tan gnarly root found in the root/potato/onion area of your grocery store's produce section. Wash your root with water. If you have a brush, use it to get off any muddy spots. I also trim away dirty areas.

Step 1: There is no need to peel the root since you will be blending and filtering. But if you want to, you can use a small spoon to scrap off some of the skin.

Step 2: Chop up the root into pieces to help your blender (or juicer) and process. You can also use grated ginger if you prefer.

Step 4: Process the blender for long enough to break down the ginger, about 1 minute. Or you can add the ginger chunks to a juicer and follow your juicer's instructions.

Step 4: Pour the blended mixture through a fine strainer and push to dry the pulp with a rubber spatula. The resulting liquid is your Ginger Juice.

Variations

  • Instead of a blender, use a juicer if you have one - follow your juicer's instructions.
  • Pineapple juice. Add pineapple juice and lemon juice to create a pineapple juice with a zingy flavor.
  • Lemon. Add a few tablespoons of lemon juice as well, to make a plainer version of my lemon ginger shot recipe.
  • Green juice. Add spinach, carrots and celery and blend into a green juice.
  • Orange juice. Add a touch of ginger juice to my homemade orange juice recipe for a brighter flavor.
  • Sweeten. Sweeten your ginger juice with coconut sugar or maple syrup or even add a date or two before blending.

Make Ahead & Storage

Ginger juice is easy to make ahead. It keeps in the refrigerator for up to two weeks in a bottle or jar. You can serve it hot or cold. It might settle though, so you'll have to shake or stir before serving.

Recipe Tips

Make small batches in a jar. You can push small amounts of ginger through a garlic press and add it to a glass or jar of water, and shake. This is best for only single servings.

FAQS

Can you drink ginger juice everyday?

In general, try not to drink more than 4 grams of ginger a day, that's about 16 ounces of this juice. [source]

How long does this juice last?

Refrigerated ginger juice lasts about two weeks in a sealed jar. To save it longer, freeze it in ice cube trays.

Do you have to peel ginger root?

Nope, but I do suggest you buy organic since we won't be cooking this root. Also, I would suggest you wash very well, as you would potatoes since ginger is a root grown in dirt.

Can ginger juice reduce belly fat?

Ginger has anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties that help the body burn fat, including belly fat.

Notes

Refrigerated ginger juice lasts about two weeks in a sealed jar. To save it longer, freeze it in ice cube trays.

Use ginger juice to make ginger shots, or just sip it straight or diluted, add seltzer water to make a healthy ginger ale, or use to make ginger beer or ginger tea.

Make ginger powder. You can throw out the pulp, but if you want to use it, spread it in a pan and bake it at 150 F for three hours in the oven. Grind it into a powder in a blender or food processor.
