There are some things that you just have to try. Dark Chocolate Wavy Lays is one of them. Milk Chocolate Wavy Lays Covered with Almond Bits is another and while we are at it, go ahead and grab the bag of Milk Chocolate Wavy Lays also. Why? Because these interesting little concoctions will change the way you think about specialty foods. At first I thought they would be too…. weird. But when I tried them, my taste buds told me that one bag is just not enough. So while walking through Target’s holiday aisle, I picked up a lot of bags – you know, a few for me to eat outright and a few for a recipe – and was inspired to see how these would taste in one of my favorite holiday recipes! Toffee Bars can be customized to your liking. But adding the limited edition Dark Chocolate Wavy Lays just takes it over the top. The double shot of chocolate makes them a divine addition to any holiday platter!

I wanted to make a batch of Sweet & Salty Toffee Bars to add to a little ‘thank you’ basket for my neighbor. This week is my birthday. At almost 44, celebrating is just not a priority to me. She has decided it should be and has given me a present a day to last the week. She adds little hand written notes and makes me feel especially wonderful. As a thank you for taking the time and energy to do something so amazing for me, I want to thank her with this recipe!

These Sweet & Salty Toffee Bars are made better with Dark Chocolate Wavy Lays!

Author: ADayinMotherhood.com - Lori Pace

Recipe type: dessert

Ingredients

  • – 8 graham crackers, or as many to fit your baking sheet
  • – Bag of Dark Chocolate Wavy Lays
  • – 1 ½ cups pecans, roughly chopped
  • – 3 sticks unsalted butter
  • – ¾ cup sugar
  • – ¼ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • – 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips or chopped semisweet chocolate

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Line a rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper. Arrange graham crackers in a single layer. Lay out the Dark Chocolate Wavy Lays evenly over the graham crackers. Sprinkle with the pecans.
  2. In a saucepan, combine butter, sugar and cinnamon and bring to a boil. Reduce the heat and simmer, stirring occasionally until golden brown and slightly thickened, about 10 minutes. Pour toffee mixture evenly over chips and peanuts.
  3. Bake at 350 for about 10- 15 minutes, depending on your oven. Toffee should be a little golden and bubbly. Remove from oven and immediately sprinkle with chocolate chips. Allow the chocolate to melt.
  4. Let sit until cool and then remove from pan and break apart.
  5. Let cool completely (you can stick them in the refrigerator to make this happen faster) before breaking into squares.

First off, Happy Birthday fellow Scorpio (my birthday was the 7th). Secondly, YUM! Thirdly, I totally meant to grab a bag of these at Target today, so reading all these delicious recipes is kinda torturous. Guess I need to go back to Target ASAP and grab all three flavors. #client

FAQs

Why do you not stir toffee? ›

Mel's Dumbed Down Version: patience, moderate heat and heavy-bottoms (see saucepan note above) make the best toffee. What is this? It's important while the toffee cooks to only stir it occasionally. Constant stirring can cause the toffee to crystallize and separate.

Are graham crackers sweet or salty? ›

A graham cracker (pronounced /ˈɡreɪ. əm/ or /ˈɡræm/ in America) is a sweet flavored cracker made with graham flour that originated in the United States in the mid-19th century, with commercial development from about 1880.

Why is my toffee chewy and not crunchy? ›

Low and slow

Simmering the syrup for English toffee to the requisite 300°F temperature can (and should) be a slow process — up to 20 minutes or so. Don't hurry this gradual transformation; syrup that doesn't reach 300°F, or close to it, will make candy with timid flavor and chewy (not crunchy) texture.

Is toffee just burnt caramel? ›

The difference between toffee and caramel is that caramel is made with white granulated sugar and cooked to 340 degrees Fahrenheit, whereas toffee is made with butter and brown sugar and cooked to 295 - 309 degrees Fahrenheit.

Will graham crackers raise blood sugar? ›

However, it's important to keep in mind that Graham crackers are made from enriched flour and can still cause a spike in blood sugar levels, especially if consumed in large quantities.

Can diabetics eat graham crackers? ›

Are graham crackers a healthy snack for diabetes? People with diabetes can certainly enjoy graham crackers, keeping in mind that one serving contains about 22 grams of total carbs and 6–8 grams of total sugar. Stick to one serving for a snack and pair with foods high in fiber and protein for balance.

What happened to graham cracker Vanderpump Rules? ›

Graham, previously known as Graham Cracker, made occasional appearances on the show as Leviss and Kennedy co-parented the dog. Leviss later rehomed Graham after checking herself into a mental health facility, surrendering him to trainers at California Doodle Rescue in April 2023.

Why can't you stir caramel? ›

Like dry caramel, you want to gently move the sugar mixture in that same side-to-side paintbrush-like fashion until the sugar dissolves. Then, as soon as the mixture comes to a boil, it should not be stirred, as the agitation can cause crystallization.

Why did my toffee separate while cooking? ›

The butter, sugar and syrup are melted together and should form a smooth sauce. When the sauce cools it should remain amalgamated. If the butterfat separates out then usually this is due to the mixture being either heated or cooled too quickly, which "shocks" the mixture and causes the fat to separate out.

What happens when you overcook toffee? ›

Undercooked toffee won't be anything more than a caramel sauce. But overcooked toffee will be just slightly crunchier (almost unrecognizably). So, always err on the side of over-cooking!

Why is my toffee not set and why is it's texture grainy and not smooth? ›

As the toffee cools and the molten sugar crystals become solid again, they are attracted to the 'seed' forming new lumps of tiny crystals – hence the grainy texture. This can also happen if the toffee is stirred, or agitated, after it has begun to boil or on cooling (as happened with this pink-tinted toffee).
